Some formative assessment procedures that teachers will use throughout the unit include the following:
Teacher can refer to these methods as the goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback. Summative Assessment
This unit plan will consist of two summative pieces of assessment that the teacher will be able to access the students knowledge and understanding of the topic. The goal of summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark (Eberly Centre, 2010).
The first assessment piece will be student working in pairs to research, create and present an oral presentation on an animal found within the Ardiyooloon (One Arm Point) community. Students will be assessed as one on the research, writing of the report and the creation of the visual poster. Students will be assessed separately on their oral presentation and their delivery.
The second assessment piece will be based on a creative writing task that allows students to use their imagination and create a story using their prior knowledge of the content learnt.
Teacher will keep all students work that they have done over the semester in their individual portfolios which will be given to their parents at the end of school year.
