Learning Objective
Students will use ICT to research the Dampier Peninsula and the Ardiyooloon community. Students will be required over the next two lessons to complete a detailed timeline displaying the rich history and culture of this community.

Geography | Year 5 | Geographical Inquiry & Skill | Observing, questioning and planning
· Develop geographical questions to investigate and plan an inquiry (ACHGS033)
o Developing a significant question about how human and environmental processes shape places
English | Year 5 | Literacy | Interpreting, analyzing & evaluating
· Use comprehension strategies to analyse information, integrating and linking ideas from a variety of print and digital sources (ACELY1703)
o Using research skills including identifying research purpose, locating texts, gathering and organising information, evaluating its relative value, and the accuracy and currency of print and digital sources and summarising information from several sources
Classroom Organisation
Students will be visiting the school library to use the laptops to complete research on the Ardiyooloon community. Students will work individually however, if there are not enough laptops for each student they will be allowed to work in pairs.
Learning Experience Instructions
1. Teacher will advise students of the days lesson
2. Teacher will explain we will be visiting the school library to do research on the Dampier Peninsula and the Ardiyooloon community.
3. Teacher will ask students to get their Geography books out and write down the following headings:
a. Who found the Ardiyooloon community?
b. When was Ardiyooloon discovered?
c. What were the basic features in this community?
d. Who created the One Arm Point school?
e. Has there been any hardships over the last decade?
f. What is the ‘Sunday Island Mission’?
4. Teacher will give students 5 minutes to write down headings ensuring they leave gaps to write their information
5. Teacher will remind students of the library and computer rules
6. Class will line up at the door and proceed to the library
7. Students will receive 45 minutes to do their research
8. Teacher will walk around the classroom to ensure students are on topic and are writing down their research
Assessment
This lesson can be formative however, it is also an assessment in itself. Students are gaining knowledge on Ardiyooloon (One Arm Point) by researching and reflecting on information.
